Creative writing is a process of expressing thoughts, ideas, and emotions through the use of language.

It involves the use of imagination and creativity to craft compelling stories, essays, poems, and other written works. Here are six tips to help improve your creative writing skills:

1. Read widely

Reading extensively exposes you to different writing styles, genres, and techniques. You can try reading short stories on Medium.

It helps you to develop a better understanding of language and its nuances. It also helps you to identify what works and what doesn’t in writing. Reading can inspire you to create your own stories, essays, and poems. It is important to read widely across different genres and styles, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and more.

2. Normalize writing regularly

Writing is a skill that requires practice to improve.

Set aside some time each day to write, whether it’s for five minutes or an hour. The more you write, the better you will become. You can start by writing about your daily experiences or something that interests you. Experiment with different styles and genres to find your voice.

3. Descriptive language

Descriptive language helps to paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind.

It creates a sensory experience that allows the reader to feel as though they are part of the story. Use metaphors, similes, and other literary devices to create a rich tapestry of words that draws the reader in. Avoid clichés and use unique and creative descriptions to add depth and meaning to your writing.

4. Edit and proofread

Good writing is often the result of multiple revisions and edits.

After you’ve finished your first draft, take a break and come back to it with fresh eyes. Look for ways to improve the clarity, flow, and structure of your writing. Cut out unnecessary words and phrases and focus on making your writing concise and impactful.

5. Experiment different writing…
